Manawatu Turbos Visit

On Friday the 17th of August a troop of 8 players from the Manawatu Turbos squad visited our school. Amongst them was an old boy - Hayden Triggs, who spoke highly of his time spent at Hato Paora College and the values that were instilled in him during that time. He believes that it helped him to become a better person and able to overcome any obstacle. The other players also talked about the commitment and hard work that it takes to become a rep rugby player and the benefits that are achieved. Hayden also spoke about the great honour it was to play for New Zealand Maori.

Under 15 Rugby Champions

It was a chilly day at Coronation Park, Palmerston North where the Manawatu Region U15's Rugby final took place. Dannevirke High had previously drawn and won against our team, however we were hot off a win against the number 1 seed team the previous week.

The first half was a close fought battle with penalty goals going both ways. Dannevirke seemed to have most of the ball but our defense was solid. The second half provided some entertaining rugby with our boys upping the ante and running it from everywhere. Keelan Akavi was a stand out with outstanding individual runs, fends and bunts. After much support from their peers and parents and howling at the referee Te Utanga Tautuhi crossed the line first followed by winger Geordi Maikuku.

With a final score of 20 - 6, the boys were overjoyed with their victory and erupted into haka and celebration. We hope that their success continues as their progress through the levels. Congratulations to the team and their coaches.
